Puntland Consumer price Index monthly report for January 2020
The All Groups CPI increased from 84.85 to 84.90 in the month of January 2020. The monthly change of January was an increase of 0.06 percent compared to an increase of 0.60 percent in the previous month of December 2019.
The most significant monthly price increases were Communication (2.35%), Tobacco & Khat (2.04%), Health (+1.83%), Furnishings, & Household Equipment (+1.32%). transport (0.58%) and Restaurants and Hotels (0.49%).
These positive movements were partially offset by price decreases in Miscellaneous Goods & Services (- 0.88%), clothing (-0.81%) Housing, Water electricity and gas (-0.66%) and education (-0.07%) leading to a relatively flat result at the All Groups CPI level.

The annual change (or inflation rate), over the twelve months to the month of January 2019, was an increase of 9.14 percent. This change is compared to an increase of 12.39 percent over the twelve months to the month of December 2019.
The most significant price increases were Tobacco & Khat (+18.57%), Clothing and Footwear (+16.57%), Recreation and Culture (+16.56%), Transport (+15.58%), Housing, Water, Electricity & Gas (+13.39%) however there were a decrease in Restaurants &Hotels (-5.24%) In general, there was a groundswell of positive price development.
