The Consumer Price Index was decreased from July 2018 to Aug 2018. The CPI was 104.5 percent in July 2018 and it decreased to 92.8 percent in Aug 2018. However, the CPI for food items was 92.7 percent in July which changed to 97.4 percent in Aug. While the CPI for non-food items was 108.1 percent in July and it converted to 91.6 percent in Aug.
The monthly inflation rate for all items was -11.2 percent in Aug 2018, down from 7.5 percent in July 2018. The inflation rate for food items was -0.2 percent in July and it increased to 5.1 percent in Aug while non-food items was 9.7 percent in July and it changed to -15.3 percent in Aug. It indicates that there is a big change for monthly inflation rate in non-food items than food and all items.
A consumer price index (CPI) measures changes in the price level of market basket of consumer goods and services purchased by households. It is used to measure and monitor the overall cost of the goods and services bought by a typical consumer.
